I was told in a consultation that people who speak English as a second language would be able to request for ESL accommodations. But NCARB responsed that there are not accommodations available for the reasoning of English not being native language. Does anyone have experience on ESL accommodations?

Hi @lauren.zhong ,

I don’t have any first hand experience with ESL accommodations, but I’ll do my best to assist!

Unfortunately, in this video NCARB put out last year they clarify that no additional time or accommodations can be provided for those who speak English as a second language.

I think Prometrics has accommodations available for other exams, but not for the ARE 5.0.

Black Spectacles recently produced a podcast about testing when English isn’t your first language and tips and tricks to master the exam. You can check it out at the link below.
