The correct answer is **D** , which orients the courtyard to the west to take advantage of the prevailing breeze. However, wouldn’t this also allow hot outdoor air into the building? In a hot arid climate, shouldn’t the goal be to prevent hot air from entering during the hottest part of the day?
Also, could you please confirm the page number form the referenced book, I can’t find any reference to p. E95.

@ema.markovska Great question! In this scenario, the key is balancing shade and air movement in the courtyard. Even in a hot-arid climate, allowing the prevailing breeze into a well-shaded outdoor space can improve comfort by increasing air movement; the intent isn’t necessarily to bring that hot air into the conditioned building.
