What are a few systems with respect to active mechanical systems that would meet LEED criteria or a client with Green Building programming goals?

Thanks

Hi @wildlandguy !

Thanks for your question! According to this article [https://www.primexvents.com/hvac-important-leed-certification/](https://www.primexvents.com/hvac-important-leed-certification/) , “most LEED certified projects use high efficiency condensing boilers and high efficiency cooling systems with variable speed drives, economizer cycles, and CO2 monitors and occupancy sensors”. However, that doesn’t mean that all green buildings use that active mechanical system.

I would take a look at page 168 of Wiley’s Architect’s Studio Companion (6th edition) if you have access to it. This describes what systems to implement if you wish to minimize operating cost and energy consumption as well as control air quality and air velocity, all of which would be considered in a LEED project. A few of systems that meet both of these requirements are:

- Variable Air Volume (VAV)
- Active Chilled Beams

There are many other systems that meet energy consumption and air quality/air velocity separately so I’d take a look at those as well. Hope that helps!

Thanks,
Rebecca
