Leaving the original question below, but I found a chart in Building Codes Illustrated that clarifies. I dropped a snippet in the reply below. Table 506.2 is area for stories above grade plane…I just wish the code said this
Just attended the workshop on 08/21 and I left really confused. Section 506 is titled Building Area & Section 506.2 says “the allowable area of a building” not floor. So I’m just not understanding how the chart stipulates the area of the floor and not the entire building. In the workshop you said it was floor.
