AIA Contract Document Numbering System

I understand how the AIA Contract Documents are ever-evolving; however, does anyone have the latest list/breakdown of the Series, Type, and Delivery?

I can’t seem to find what Type #6 and Type #9 are.

Also, the names seem to vary between what you’re referencing, even within the AIA website. If you have an answer, please provide the source of your information.

I doubt Form G612-2017 - Owner’s Instructions to the Architect or Form G901-2022 - Generic Conditional Waiver and Release on Progress Payment are on the PcM exam, so my question is more for my edification.

Below is a breakdown of the latest I’ve found.

Series:

  • A - Owner/Contractor Agreements
  • B - Owner/Architect Agreements
  • C - Other Agreements
  • D - Miscellaneous Documents
  • E - Exhibits
  • F - Facility Management Documents
  • G - Contract Administration & Project Management Forms

Type:

  • 1 - Prime Agreements
  • 2 - Conditions or Scope of the Agreements
  • 3 - Bonds or Qualifications
  • 4 - Agreements between Prime & Sub-Contractors or Sub-Consultants
  • 5 - Guides
  • 6 - RESERVED
  • 7 - Bid Documents & Construction Forms
  • 8 - Forms or Documents Specific to the Architect
  • 9 - RESERVED

Delivery:

  • 0 - Conventional Delivery
  • 1 - Conventional Delivery
  • 2 - Conventional Delivery
  • 3 - CM as Adviser (CMa) or CM as Constructor (CMc)
  • 4 - Design-Build
  • 5 - Interiors
  • 6 - International
  • 7 - Program Management
  • 8 - Volumetric Modular Construction
  • 9 - Integrated Project Delivery

Welcome to the Black Spectacles Community @nicholas.manalo! We are happy to have you here.

This is an excellent breakdown of the AIA contract docs and how they are structured (and a helpful resource to anyone else who also might be studying for PcM/PjM/CE)! From what I can tell, you have the current list. Types 6 and 9 still appear to be reserved, meaning they are for future use (similar to that of CSI MasterFormat ‘reserved’ divisions).

I wouldn’t worry too much about the nitty gritty of AIA contract docs beyond this overview, as well as the specific docs listed in the ARE 5.0 Guidelines (page 117) - as those are the ones that NCARB most often references on the ARE.

Here are some additional resources if you are interested:

Hope this helps!
