The question states that we are designing a building in southwest region. Which according to the climate region plan is hot and arid/dry (it also mentions heavy cooling load).
According to the right answers: How is natural ventilation preferred in this climate? In fact large glazing should be avoided in hot areas.
Also looks like the references given in the explanation is not correct. Can you please provide and explanation or the right reference.
Hi @kokate,
Thanks for reaching out with your question! You are correct in that large areas of glazing should be avoided (as that answer choice is indicated as ‘Incorrect’), but they can be used with proper precautions and orientations.
Natural ventilation, however, is a great strategy that could reduce the need for mechanical cooling and energy consumption in hot climates with heavy cooling loads. Specifically, the answer choice indicates that the building would be oriented to take advantage of natural ventilation, which doesn’t necessarily require large areas of glazing if done strategically.
Lastly, it appears that the indicated reference is incorrect so we will update that once determine the most appropriate source. I will write back to you here with that information.
Thank you,
