Hearing some mixed information pertaining to unit conversions for the latest PJM exam. Information from 3 years ago required us to know unit conversions for the PJM. All of the blackspectacles practice exams, as well as the NCARB practice exam did not show any questions that had mixed units. Do we need to know unit conversions such as from feet/inches, into yards, square yards, etc. I assume these are for the zoning questions to calculate F.A.R. and so on. Wondering if they are still requiring unit conversions or if the question and answers have been updated to reflect the same units now. I am taking this exam in a few days and need to know if this is something I should work on. Thank you.
Welcome to the ARE Community, @estherilatova! Thanks for writing in.
The ARE 5.0 Guidelines does not specifically note unit conversions, but I’d say it wouldn’t hurt to have the basic ones memorized (i.e. square feet to acres, square feet to cubic feet, etc.). It will help in your practical experience as well! In my experience taking the ARE, I do recall having to do some basic conversions and there are not given to you on the exam.
I came across this thread on the NCARB Community that touches on this. While it is a few years old, it is definitely still relevant.
However, try not to stress too much about this, as you likely won’t get many questions (if at all) on PjM that would require you to convert units; which is probably why you haven’t encountered them during your practice exams.
Hope this helps. Good luck on your exam! You are going to crush it!
