Another clarification Needed. PDD PRACTICE EXAM 2, FORM 1, CASE STUDY 3, QUESTION 2 OF 3.

Correct Answer explanation says: “According to the definition of Type II construction, all building structural elements must be of non-rated construction. The roof trusses are permitted to be made of combustible material, as long as they receive a fire-retardant coating.”

IBC says TYPE IIB is non-combustible, unprotected. Please advice.

@hamza.waris The “space” comparison isn’t really about the size of ducts versus pipes alone. It’s referring to the overall distribution infrastructure and equipment required by the system. While ducts can certainly be larger than pipes, hydronic systems also require pumps, piping networks, valves, and other components.
