Although in the RFQ you still haven’t been awarded the project isn’t too early to partner with another firm that has experience and not know if you’ll get the project?

Hey @robertorodriguez2089 , a firm can submit a response to an RFQ in conjunction with another firm, and suggest that they will enter into a partnership if awarded the project.

Hi @aj1 - it’s just not possible for him to cover everything in this ARE Live about each topic, but you are correct!

question number 3 - Mike is not correct!
Supplemental services are “must to have” during project and are added before signed contract.

Additional services would be the answer not “supplemental”…

What is the difference between supplemental and additional services? Is it the timing of when the services are added-- supplemental services are for services supplied BEFORE contract is signed and additional services supplied AFTER contract is signed? Can they be the same services, but just timing is what sets them apart?
Thanks.

I can’t stop thinking about the first problem when you said it would be ok to add the extra money left from SD phase to complement JBs allowance in DD. How do we know when that’s an appropriate thing to do? It feels a bit subjective. Wouldn’t be better to save the money? Can you clarify?

@ckilian Often, if there’s a savings in one phase, it can be appropriate to ‘carry over’ that savings to future phases. The question asks ‘approximately’ how many hours the employee can work during the DD phase, so Mike was simply pointing out that this additional savings can be added to the DD phase bucket of money.
Whether you added this amount or not, you’d still arrive at the correct answer to this question.
On the exam, NCARB will provide clear instructions in instances like this. Mike was using this as a teaching point for our ARE Live only.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but could items in the “supplemental services” table for example be considered “additional services” because they are asked AFTER the contract is signed? Are all actions asked of after the contract is signed considered “additional services.”

Are you guys reviewing everyones answers if submitted and “grading them” and emailing those to each person?

Yes. For example, if ‘telecommunications design’ is listed as an owner responsibility in article 4 (supplemental services) but later, the owner changes their mind and wishes for the architect to provide these services, they can be added as an additional service without invalidating the agreement. This would incur an additional fee from the architect.
