Live Q&ARE w/ Desk Crits authors Tess McNamara & Sam Zeif

Hi @luisr! The guide has been around for a few months now and we don’t have hard numbers to share yet, but anecdotally, the feedback has been very positive and at times constructive! The Desk Crits pass rate is something we are actively working on putting a number to, so stay tuned!

To pick the single customer feedback we’ve heard most often, we’ve been thrilled to find that our readers love the clarity + simplicity of the book. The ARE will never be a one-stop-shop, and from the beginning, we’ve set out to create a road map with fundamental notes. There is SO much material out there and by simply spelling out what to study and the chapters/pages you can find the information we’ve heard from Desk Crits customers that we’ve lowered stress levels and sped up studying times. As two survivors that cursed the complexity of this process all the way along, this is really so nice to hear!

Also, we’re all designers here, so the fact that the book looks great (so we have heard!) has really resonated with people. You’re going to be spending a lot of time on this. We like that this thing you’re lugging around all the time might make you feel good about what you are doing!

And one piece of constructive feedback we’ve heard: more diagrams! We’re all visual people. We hear you!

Finally, yes, the book is a one time purchase and covers all 6 ARE exams.

Hi @leo! We are not currently NCARB approved but have been at this since December. We’ve come at this from the perspective of two young architects interested in helping our peers!

Howdy. What supplementary materials do you recommend? I love that Desk Crits is so concise, but I’m curious if there are any longer reference books you strongly endorse. Thanks.

In Houston, TX there has been several issues with exams not pulling up or stopping during the exam at the prometeric centers. Many people I know show up ready to test and are unable to because of technical issues. Is there a plan to fix this? Also with one center open in Houston proper - scheduling a test is impossible, especially when many people have to reschedule due to technical issues on there exam day.
