Parking Max Slope

Hi, I got a question on a practice exam from Black Spectacles about the max slope for parking. The correct answer says 20%, while Ballast recommends 5% (1:20) max. I was wondering if 20% max is truly allowed for parking, because I also saw somewhere that roads are maxxed out at 10% so I am just a bit confused about this. Thank you!

Hello @daspitz -

Thank you for posting on the community. In regards to the slope are you referring to ramped conditions to get a car from one level to another, or the surface in which the car is parked?

Elise

Hi Elise,

The question says it is a steep site and to ignore accessibility requirements. It asks what is the steepest longitudinal slope allowable, so I guess cross-slope may be less.

Thank you, again!

Hello @daspitz -

Perhaps our in house architect @coachchrishopstock can weigh in on this!

Hi @daspitz thanks for writing in!
I agree with you about the 5% recommendation in Ballast, but the question is asking about the maximum slope achievable. This is noted in the Site Planning and Design Handbook, 2nd Edition, on Table 7.4 as 20%.
