Question brownfield remediation

What is the fastest way to remediate the site where you want to build a university on. Cost isn’t an issue?
capping the site and soil in fill
Passing treatment wells
offsite soil washing

Great question @carolinron! If cost is not a concern and the priority is speed, capping the site and placing clean fill is typically the fastest remediation option. Capping isolates contamination in place by covering it with an engineered barrier and clean soil, allowing construction to move forward relatively quickly without waiting for long-term treatment processes.

Pump-and-treat wells and offsite soil washing both may provide more permanent removal or treatment, but they take significantly more time. Pump-and-treat systems can require years to reach cleanup goals, and offsite soil washing involves excavation, transportation, and processing, which adds logistical delays.

For ARE purposes, pay close attention to the constraints given in the question. Use context clues such as time, cost, long-term liability, and level of contamination to determine the best approach.

Hope this helps!
