I am confirming I understand this correctly-

This is not a change order but a CCD because there is NO TIME to go through the approval of the owner? It is mentioned that the owner needs this regardless to time and cost. When is the “boarder” of time between CCD and CO? Is it correct to take in account that if the time is rushed- the answer will most likely always be CCD?

Tnx

Great question @sevanb! The decision of whether to use a CCD or CO isn’t based on a specific time boundary, but more so based on whether cost/time are agreed to yet and whether work must proceed immediately. Here are the distinctions:

  • Change Order (CO): used when the owner + contractor agree on scope, price, and time before the work starts.

  • Construction Change Directive (CCD): used when the work must move forward now, but the parties haven’t agreed on cost and/or time (or pricing can’t be determined quickly). It’s basically “proceed now, we’ll resolve cost/time later.”

Hope this helps!
