Elevator Submittal Review... NCARB ARE CE practice exam

I know that normally we don’t look at dimensions on a submittal -

but what about an elevator submittal?

If the submittal docs show shaft and pit dimensions - how can we not review those?

They directly pertain to critical dimensions that we must get right.

I’m obviously really missing something here. Can anyone help?

Hi @aidenjh - the official stance, according to AIA contracts, is that we don’t review dimensions as part of submittal review. This is a liability issue, to keep the burden on the contractor to follow the dimensions required of the CDs.

In practice, of course we do review critical dimensions as part of our submittal review. I would say we do this as a courtesy, but doing so does not absolve the contractor of their responsibility to follow the CDs.

I get it. NCARB wants to really drill this into us for our liability protection, so I should consider suspending my sense of professional judgment / balance / practicality if I think I’m brushing up against one of the more charged NCARBY kinds of policies. . Thank you.
