PA practice exam question

A historic 19th-century structure is being rehabilitated to function as a hotel. An erroneous attempt at restoring the structure in the 1930s added architectural elements that are inconsistent with the style of the original structure. Which instruction should the architect provide with regard to these inconsistent architectural elements?

A. Clean the elements by sandblasting with fine grain sand

B. Protect the elements in place

C. Remove the incompatible elements

D. Carefully remove and replace the elements with more historic elements from the original structure

I got confused by this question’s answer, why is it not C “ remove the incompatible elements?”

This one tripped me up as well. But according to the definitions of Secretary of Interior’s and definition of “Rebabilitation” : is defined as the act or process of making possible a compatible use for a property through repair, alterations, and additions while preserving those portions or features which convey its historical, cultural, or architectural values. Unlike previous construction of an erroneous addition or faux ceiling, etc, the added details were part of a past Rehabilitation, and therefore part of the historical aspect of the building, although done poorly.
