In a restoration project, if a building element has deteriorated, should you replace or repair?
Hi @ssimenhoff02 ,
Great question! One of our Black Spectacles’ PA Workshop topics is “Treatment and Rehab of Historical Buildings” if you have an expert level subscription and really want to dig into the topic.
It can depend. I’m guessing that your question here is referencing a historical building. In this instance, we can (and should) refer to ’ The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation’
You can see under item 6 that according to these standards, deteriorated elements of historical buildings should be repaired rather than replaced.
Hope this helps!
