When is it optimal to use mechanical fasteners or permanently adhere roofing material to the roof? Does it have to do with roof slope or maintenance?

Hi @linda that’s a good question! @coachlizschneider can you jump in?
@linda Thanks for the question. Currently, mechanically fastened roofs are most commonly used, although fully adhered roofs are also becoming more and more commonly used. The biggest draw back to fully adhered roofs is that they often don’t perform as well in high wind events and are more expensive where as mechanically fastened roofs are more likely to cause thermal bridging. The debate about whether to use mechanically fastened or fully adhered roofing systems is mostly for flat roofs. For sloped roofs shingles are attached with nails.
