IPD Q on ARE Practice Test

Hello, I was recently stumped by an IPD question on the ARE practice test that recommended the owner contract with both a General Contractor and a Construction Manager for an IPD project in addition to the Architect. The General Contractor makes sense, but I haven’t seen anything in my study materials about also using a Construction Manager. I would greatly appreciate any insight folks can offer!

Hi @jpmcd !

Thanks for your question, this was definitely a tricky one for me as well. Although in many IPD scenarios, a construction manager isn’t hired on, a CMc delivery method can actually be applied to an IPD delivery method where a construction manager as constructor is hired on in the beginning. I did some digging and found a pretty good resource that helps explain this concept:

I recommend checking out pages 46 & 47 for more information on the CMc/IPD relationship. Thanks!
