Van-Accessible Parking

@coachjoeyandrada Thank you for your excellent presentation regarding accessibility.

I have a question about the number of van-accessible parking spaces, specifically related to question 2 of Part 4. According to ADA 208.2.4, we need 1 van parking space for every 6, or fraction of 6, parking spaces.

In this question, we have 3 accessible parking spaces out of 42 total parking spots. I initially thought the answer for van-accessible spaces would be 0, since we only have 3 accessible spaces (less than 6). However, if we’re meant to calculate based on all 42 parking spots, then the answer would be 7 van-accessible spaces.

I’m confused about why the solution states 1 accessible parking space. Could you please clarify this for me?

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Hey there! Great question!

You always must have at least 1 van accessible parking space. The rule is for every six, or fraction there of beyond, you must add an additional space.

For example:

1-6 accessible spaces = 1 van accessible space
7-12 accessible spaces = 2 van accessible spaces
13-18 accessible spaces = 3 van accessible spaces
etc.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your quick response and clear explanation! That makes perfect sense.
