ARE Live: What to Know to Pass the ARE Online '21

Yes.

Kiara, I have the same situation…thank you for asking this question!

To address the proctor’s objections, you have to log off and log back on. They will not allow you to correct the environment while they wait.

There may be better ones, but this one definitely worked.

That’s what I have.

It was less than $50.

I did the practice test and it took me over an hour to get to a proctor, and they were having technical difficulties so I had to log in and out and go through the setup multiple times and I never actually got into the practice test. Which was fine since it was a practice test, but I am concerned about the real exam. The suggestion to log in early is a great recommendation.

Not sure if it helps anyone, but when I did my test run, I did well with the system readiness check no problem, but when I got through to the proctor, the webcam went to a green diagonal screen, and despite plenty of technical trouble shooting, it would not work. So I did a second test run, and bought 3 different web cams, and of the three only 1 worked. I returned the others. My advice is that it may be worthwhile to have a back up on hand.

I had to wait 90 mins for the actual exam!!! AFTER security check. By then I needed a break and the test hadn’t started.

NCARB online requirements PLUS webcam information!

My understanding ( after taking an remote exam on line) is you MUST log in 30 min prior to scheduled exam time. I did also “test exam” and readiness check took about 20 min in both cases.
I did wait for the exam to start due to " a lot of customers" - but this is not the exam time - so just seat and wait…
I had a computer problems - was cut off in 72 questions out of 75! Very stressful. It was Prometric problem NOT my internet. BUT… I passed the exam ! - I guess the answers are automatically saved.

That is crazy and one of my major concerns for the actual exam! I knew they were having problems, but shocked about the wait time!

Yeah it definitely added to the stress. Even so, on balance… the testing center has its own stresses, especially during covid, so you need to decide what’s important to you.

My proctor warned me orally on the audio about that. He said the camera couldn’t identify me.

I have done the test run to test my webcam and I could pass the readiness check! My first exam got cancelled due to the webcam not being able to autofocus on my name on the ID. Autofocus was part of the webcam specifications when I bought it from Amazon, but apparently it wasn’t acceptable. I currently have Nexico N930AF and didn’t have any problems during the online proctor test run.

So true, I’ve been waiting to take the test online because I live over an hour away from a testing center and also because of covid. The last test I took was a few months into the pandemic and I didn’t feel we were properly spaced apart and the person next to me was coughing and then the proctor came over and asked her to put her mask back up (!!) so I was feeling super paranoid during the exam. So when I heard about the online option I felt that was better for me.

Did anyone have trouble with the Whiteboard? I did. Mine was occasionally erasing what I had just written, forcing me to re-do the question. Lost a lot of time. Also, drawing tools are really slow and weak. I miss paper.
